San Diego breweries have done it again: Three local beer businesses snagged top prizes at the international competition this weekend at the Brussels Beer Challenge in Belgium.

Stone Brewing Co. and Green Flash Brewing Co. earned gold medals for their beers, with Ballast Point receiving a bronze.

Stone won the dark ale category with its Sublimely Self Righteous Ale. Le Freak by Green Flash snagged top prize for the specialty hybrid beer category and Ballast Point’s Calico Amber Ale was third place for pale/amber ales.

America’s Finest City is no stranger to good beer. Earlier this year San Diego swept the World Beer Cup competition with 16 awards. Plus the city has garnered national attention as a craft beer city, prompting tourists to visit San Diego breweries – which is good for the local economy.

The awards are timely for the three breweries, as the city is currently celebrating Beer Week 2012. So raise your glass to Green Flash, Stone and Ballast Point – and try a pint of their award-winning beers. Cheers!
