The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego announced Friday that it may have to file for bankruptcy after roughly 400 claims seeking claims alleging sexual abuse by priests and other members.

After being installed by Pope Francis at the Vatican, San Diego’s newly-appointed Cardinal Robert McElroy presides at his first mass.

McElroy will be the 16th Cardinal from the United States, and the first to be from San Diego. His assignment as a Cardinal, for now, will remain in his current role as Bishop of San Diego, the religious head of the San Diego Catholic Diocese, which maintains a population of nearly 1.4 million Catholics across San Diego and Imperial Counties.
