Democratic political candidates are struggling to counter a barrage of GOP attacks targeting LGBTQ people, particularly transgender people.

At the age of 16, Stella Keating became the first trans teen to testify before Congress when she spoke before the Senate Judiciary Committee in favor of the Equality Act this March. Keating has big plans for her future, but her top priority is helping make a “more inclusive and safe world” for other trans kids like her.

“Orange is the New Black” star Laverne Cox shared a 10 minute Instagram video about being caught up in a transphobic attack in Los Angeles. NBCLX welcomed transgender activist Raquel Willis and Zahara Green of TRANScending Barriers to discuss the rise of hate crimes against the transgender community, plus the reaction to actor Elliot Page declaring themself transgender.

The flags were hoisted into the air above the Eugene Brucker Education Center on Normal Street Monday, the day before the San Diego Unified Board of Education was scheduled to vote on a resolution recognizing Juneteenth as an observed holiday for the district.
