MJ Acosta is a sports anchor for NBC 7 and Telemundo 20. MJ grew up in New York City where she spent most of her time watching her father, a former pro basketball player from the Dominican Republic, play in an Optimist League.
MJ graduated from Barry University in Miami. While there her love of sports grew and she got the best seat in the house at every Miami Dolphins game as she graced the sidelines as a Miami Dolphins Cheerleader. She got her start in broadcasting as a public affairs sports reporter for a Spanish language station in Miami.
She anchored for Generation Nexxt Youth Sports Network. And she worked for years as a reporter and sports anchor at the ABC affiliate in Miami. She was also a licensed boxing announcer with the Florida Boxing Commission for two years, in which she announced dozens of boxing and MMA matches in Miami in both English and Spanish.
When MJ isn’t covering the local teams, you can find her embracing her athletic nature by running a charity 5K race, pushing through obstacles at events like the Spartan Race, or exploring her adventurous side by sky diving!
In addition, MJ has a passion for philanthropy. She has worked with several organizations both locally and nationally including the “Wounded Warrior Project”, “Best Buddies” and Susan G. Komen’s “Race For The Cure”.
