Brooke Martell – Meteorologist

Brooke Martell is excited to be a meteorologist and journalist for NBC7!

Born and raised on the central coast, Brooke grew up playing sports, dancing, and performing in musical theatre in San Luis Obispo County. A lover of the arts and storytelling, she knew from a young age she wanted to work in television.

She’s a graduate of San Diego State University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. For the second half of her college years, she spent time working at KPBS and interning at none other than NBC7! After a five-year stint in her hometown covering news and weather in San Luis Obispo for KSBY-TV, in 2021 she had the opportunity to come to NBC7 as a freelance forecaster and reporter. In 2023, she was offered a fulltime staff position.

Through her career, Brooke has covered multiple wildfires across San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties, including the Thomas Fire in 2017 that burned more than 280,000 acres across Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. Not even a month after that fire tore through both counties, killing two people and destroying several neighborhoods, the 01/09/2018 Debris Flow swept through the hills and neighborhoods of Montecito, California, killing 23 people. Seeing the aftermath firsthand of how weather events can impact communities led Brooke on a journey to become a meteorologist. In 2023, Brooke earned her Broadcast and Operational Meteorology Program certificate through Mississippi State University. She’s honored to continue her work at NBC7 to share local science and climate-based stories alongside being a part of the First Alert Weather Team.

In her free-time, Brooke loves to stay active, working out at home with Peloton, or heading to a HIIT cardio class. A new member of Junior League of San Diego, she’s looking forward to giving back to the community she lives in and covers. Brooke loves to travel and enjoys spending time in the mountains, back home on the central coast or on Kauai with her close friends and family.
