Shandel Menezes reports weekdays on NBC 7.
She joined NBC in February 2023. She comes to San Diego from Tyler, Texas, where she was a reporter at KYTX.
Shandel says East Texas weather is not for the faint of heart- Tornadoes, city-wide evacuations, hurricanes and the deep freeze of 2021 were just some of the things Shandel experienced and reported on.
She got her start in journalism at her internship with the Television Academy and FOX LA. She also interned at WTVD and WRAL in Durham and Raleigh, North Carolina while attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
At UNC, Shandel was involved in mentorship group Movement of Youth, the Caribbean Student Association, and the Carolina Association of Black Journalists.
She took student immersion trips to learn from other journalists in London, England, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Beijing, China. She got to do yoga on the Great Wall of China while she was there and the views were incredible.
In her free time, Shandel likes to cook, stay active in the gym or playing volleyball and spend time with loved ones.
