When deputies approached Nett, he was holding a knife. He refused to drop the knife and when deputies deployed a K9, Nett stabbed the dog in the face.

Deputies were called out to Paseo Delicias just before 5:30 a.m. for report of a disturbance in the area, which included Nett yelling and slamming things on the ground.

Nett then broke into an apartment and took the resident inside as a hostage. The resident was able to escape by running into a bathroom and locking himself inside.

Eventually, Nett exited the apartment. As he threatened deputies with his knife, a deputy fired four rounds at him, wounding him and bringing the standoff to an end.
