    A gun found at the Creek to Bay Cleanup on April 30, 2011.

    Volunteers working at the 9th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup Saturday found something a little bit more than they expected while helping to keep San Diego clean.

    During the event, volunteers found a semi-automatic handgun in a canyon area along Plaza Boulevard in North Encanto. Police at the scene believe the handgun was likely tossed in the canyon at some point.

    It can be said that the handgun is just one more unwanted object the event was put in place to remove from the 75 sites slated for a cleanup.

    Creek to Bay Cleanup is hosted by the organization I Love A Clean San Diego in the effort to help rid inland ares of of debris that build up during the year.

    More a million pounds of trash have been cleared from areas around San Diego during the eight Creek to Bay Cleanup events that have been held over the years, according to the event's website.
