Clear the Shelters 2018: NBC 7 Staff Share Photos of Their Adopted Animals

NBC and Telemundo stations around the country will team up with hundreds of shelters on Aug. 18 for the fourth annual Clear the Shelters animal adoption drive.

Artie Ojeda
This is Theodore, a dog rescued from the Louisiana floods of 2016. Artie reported on the dogs brought to San Diego and fell in love with Theodore - so he decided to adopt him! Now, he's a happy part of the Ojeda family.

Meet SofiLu, a 1-year-old pug. Abraham and his wife decided to adopt the pug after a loss in the family. He says the pug is loving and playful, and brights up their lives every day.

Ashley Matthews
Ashley Matthews volunteers for a local dog rescue called “scratch my belly dog rescue” and foster dogs. Over the past year, she's fostered dozens of dogs. In this photo, she's with her dog Ella. Ashley adopted Ella 15 years ago from the Humane Society in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and she's now 17 years old!

Carrie Gibbs
This is Carrie's dog Shyla and her kitty Dobbie. Shyla was in the pound for a bit and was unadoptable until a rescue organization took her in. Carrie adopted her when she was one year old. It took a lot of persistence and love, but the dog eventually become friends with Carrie. Now, she's eight years old and loves her nephews and has her own protector: Dobbie the Kitty!

Meet Chris Blei's dog Wrigley, a rescue poodle mix that's now three years old. Wrigley and his brothers were found in El Centro and brought to a San Diego-area shelter when they were just three months old. Wrigley is friendly, full of life, full of energy and loves playing outside and chasing rabbits.

Meet Crystal's rescue dog Bodie. Bodie was adopted when he was just eight weeks old, and this November, the family will celebrate his 7th birthday! Bodie loves to chase balls, go to the dog beach and dress up as Batman during Comic-Con (and Spiderman at Halloween!).

Catherine Garcia and her family adopted two cats, Olive and Lulu, from a San Diego shelter several years ago. The two sisters were found abandoned in the Inland Empire. Lulu had been attacked by an animal and barely survived. Now, she's cuddly and loving. Olive is a night owl like Catherine, and she's always up waiting for Catherine when gets home from work at midnight.

Meet two of Jack's three rescue dogs. Bella, the Lab, was rescued from the Helen Woodward Shelter many years ago. On top of Bella is her friend Bear, a two-year-old Chihuahua mix. The two love watching NBC7's morning show, Animal Planet and Football on Sundays.

Here's Ramon Galindo's friend Dexter, a rescue pup who loved to run in circles and cuddle - but only if you rub his belly. Ramon says Dexter is the smartest puppy on the block. One of his favorite hobbies is napping.

Meet Ricardo's two rescued cats. Betty (left) is a 16-year-old female Maine Coon. Bobby, on the right, is a 14-year-old male Tabby. The family rescued them from a shelter 10 years ago, and they're still as playful as they were when they were kittens.

This is Sage'sdog Luna, a 4-year-old Chihuahua rescued last year from the San Diego Humane Society. She's always wagging her tail and loves an occasional drop of milk in her food. She loves to lounge on the fluffiest pillows in the house, too.

Scott's 10-year-old dog Lillie is a Havanese (the national dog of Cuba!). The family adopted her from a shelter in Chula Vista in 2010. She loves to play ball, hang out at the beach and obsess over food. Plus, she loves belly rubs and car rides.
