A La Jolla man died from injuries suffered during a skateboarding accident near his home, according to a published report.

Justin Tomerlin, 27, was riding his skateboard down a hill on Moonlight Lane Saturday, March 20 when he fell and hit his head, our online media partner the La Jolla Light reported.

A family friend said a wheel may have locked and led to the crash, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

Tomerlin was placed on life support but was declared brain dead on Monday, March 22, according to the paper.

A former football player for Nebraska University, Tomerlin was a salesman with Health Fusion in La Jolla, a healthcare information technologies firm.

He was considered one of the leaders at the company according to Chris Neppes, a friend of Tomerlin's who is Health Fusion's marketing director.

"He was a magnificent human being and a very driven and amazing athlete," Neppes told the La Jolla Light. "He was just a real inspiration to be around."

“He had a great attitude. Kind of always on the edge all the time," family friend Deb Pollock told an Omaha newspaper. "Maybe a little too much, but he always had a good time.”
