DUI Driver Crashed, Sparked Fire: Police

    A bizarre string of events involving an alleged drunk driver left a trail of destruction fanned out over several miles overnight.

    It started with a hit and run crash at the intersection of Graves Ave. and Madison Ave. in El Cajon just after 11 p.m., according to investigators.

    The crash damaged one of the suspect's tires, but he allegedly kept driving with his rim grinding on the asphalt sending sparks in every direction, police said. Investigators believe that touched off at least one brush fire off highway 67 near Prospect Ave.

    Police say the man finally came to a stop at an A1 storage facility where they found him lying on the ground. He was wearing a cast; hospital suctions and had a wheelchair in his van.

    Police say the alleged drunk driver was taken to Grossmont Hospital. He’s expected to face several charges once doctors clear him medically.
