The dangerous combination of high winds and dry conditions have caused red flag conditions yet again in East County. NBC 7’s Jeanette Quezada spoke with Alpine residents affected by the power outage.

The critical fire danger will continue through Friday morning as San Diego County grapples with extremely low relative humidity and strong offshore Santa Ana winds.

A red-flag warning is in effect overnight and into Tuesday.

A red flag warning was set to expire for San Diego County Wednesday as Santa Ana winds diminish, although dry conditions could still create concern for wildfires in the days to come, forecasters said.

Because of the winds, about 7,000 SDG&E customers had their power shut off on Friday. NBC 7’s Shandel Menezes was in Alpine, where residents dealt with outages this week.

NBC 7’s Audra Stafford reports on the strong winds in East County San Diego, which is creating dangerous fire weather and driving conditions. 

More than 74,000 SDG&E customers remain at risk of an outage through Friday afternoon. NBC 7’s Shelby Bremer reports from Wynola, which did lose power this week.

Amid an already dry winter season, the first Santa Ana wind event of 2025 is elevating fire danger this week and threatening power shut-offs for thousands of San Diego Gas & Electric customers.

NBC 7’s Audra Stafford is in Ramona where winds are expected to pick up in the afternoon after a red flag warning was extended until Friday. 

Strong Santa Ana winds left nearly 10,000 SDG&E customers without power in East County. The outages include some schools which forced classes to be canceled. NBC 7’s Dana Williams reports. 

Residents are doing what they can to be prepared for possible evacuations if a brush fire does spark amid gusty and dangerous winds. NBC 7’s Audra Stafford reports.
