Cat Rescued From Storm Drain in Escondido

The cat had been missing for six days before it was found inside a storm drain and rescued.

The San Diego Humane Society received a call around 3 p.m. on Thursday from Escondido Rangers Lake Division, reporting they were hearing a cat in a drain. The drain was located at the flood control channel near 433 N Ash Street.

With the combined efforts of the Humane Society and Escondido Public Works, the cat was rescued from the drain with a net. The drop was about 12 feet deep.

Once rescued, the cat was friendly and purring, very happy to see humans again. He had a microchip, and when scanned, the Humane Society learned the cat, named Smokey Joe, had been reported missing six days earlier.
