They originally got their start in Provo, Utah in 2008 before relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada. Their current band lineup consists of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, lead guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist/keyboardist Ben McKee and drummer Daniel Platzman. Keyboardist Elliot Schwartzman joins them on tour.
