Man Charged for Buying Alcohol for Brother's Post- Prom Party

Jerome Spruille, 24, rented the vacant San Marcos home just for the prom party

A San Diego man faces charges for buying minors alcohol after a Helix High School post-prom party.

Jerome Spruille, 24, rented a home in San Marcos for two days as a venue for a prom party for his brother and about 40 other students according to officials.

When deputies were called to the home on Linda Vista Drive around 2:38 a.m. Saturday, they say they found a large amount of beer and liquor bottles on the kitchen counters, the island and in the refrigerator.

Partygoers left the party in several cars deputies said.

When deputies talked with Spruille, he allegedly said the students were underage and that he was the one who bought the alcohol for the party.

Spruille was arrested, cited and released for violating San Marcos' social host ordinance according to a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Social host violations may carry a fine of up to $1,000 on the first offense. Subsequent violations carry a fine of up to $2,000 or up to 32 hours of community service or up to 6 months in jail.
