The Padres weren't talking about their losing ways before Thursday's game with Arizona, but instead answering questions about Manny Ramirez testing positive for a banned substance.
The Dodgers outfielder has been suspended 50 games, and will not appeal.
"I was shocked to hear it," said Padres closer Heath Bell. "I don't think it's a black eye for the game, but rather a positive that our drug testing program is working."
Padres slugger Adrian Gonzalez is taking a wait-and-see attitude.
"I'm not jumping to any conclusions without knowing all the details," said Gonzalez. "Manny is a great player, but if you make a mistake nobody is immune under this policy."
"The game has to be clean," according to outfielder Scott Hairston.
The Padres will face the Dodgers in June in Los Angeles without Manny. But will host the Dodgers on his first day back from his suspension on July 3 at Petco Park.
