Search for Vista Man Enters 5th Day Amid Heatwave

Francisco Larios recently suffered a stroke and is unable to speak, his family said

The search for a missing man in Vista entered its fifth day Thursday while the region was under an excessive heat warning.

Francisco Larios, 83, has not been seen since Sunday when he wandered away from his family's home on Lado De Loma Drive.

Search teams have been looking for Larios in the area near a Lowe's where dogs working with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department recently picked up the man's scent.

They were focusing the search Thursday on a creek bed that runs behind the shopping center.

Larios did not have a phone, money or a wallet in his possession at the time of his disappearance, his family said.

He has recently suffered a stroke and is unable to speak. He also takes medications for a heart condition.

Larios was described as 5 feet, 2 inches tall with gray hair and brown eyes. He also has a thick gray mustache and sideburns. He was last seen wearing a gray long-sleeve T-shirt.

His granddaughter Carla Vargas said he was last seen by family Sunday at around 6:30 a.m. before they left the house for church. When they came back home at around 8 a.m. he was gone.

Anyone with information on Larios’ whereabouts is asked to call the SDSO  at (858) 565-5200.
