Thieves Break Into Classrooms at Two Chula Vista High Schools

Police say thieves recently targeted Otay Ranch High School and Olympian High School in Chula Vista,

Students are out of school for the summer, but apparently, burglars aren't taking a break from the classroom.

Police say thieves recently targeted Otay Ranch High School and Olympian High School in Chula Vista.

A spokesperson with the Sweetwater School District says it’s not the first time Otay Ranch has been targeted. The spokesperson confirmed it was the third break-in at the school in the last two or three months.

They said four classrooms had been broken into, but the crooks didn't take anything.

β€œI'm seeing a real good uptick in activity of things that are going on. Break-ins, cars, that kind of stuff,” Joe Contreras said. He’s lived in the area since 2005.

Several blocks away at Olympian, thieves broke into a couple of classrooms and stole a few small items and a couple of computers.

The district said it’s investigating whether students were involved.

If the schools have cameras, police will likely go through the video to check for any sign of the burglars in action.

NBC 7 reached out to the Chula Vista Police Department for more details about these break-ins, but hasn’t heard back.
