A man living in a Lake Murray home shot and killed an intruder who was involved in an altercation with his father early Monday, a San Diego police homicide detective confirmed.
The suspect, 38-year-old Hollis Forman, had his body pulled from the backyard pool by emergency personnel who responded to the report of a burglary at the two-story home on Lake Shore Drive.
A neighbor told NBC 7 she heard three gunshots shortly before 6:30 a.m. She also said there was a lot of blood in the pool in the backyard of the home.
San Diego police were called at 6:20 a.m. by a woman who said her husband was fighting with someone inside their house and her son may have shot the suspect, Lt. Anthony Dupree said. "The suspect ran out the back door and landed in the pool," investigators said in a news release.
The woman's husband suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper body, Dupree said. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was described as in stable condition.
Dupree said the victim's son was 20 years old. He could not provide information regarding the gun used in the shooting and whether it was registered to the residents of the home.
Forman was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not known to family members, the homicide investigator said.

It's too early in the investigation to determine a motive for the break-in, Dupree said. He mentioned the family's home backs up to an open area.
