San Diego police are searching for a suspect with a large knife who allegedly assaulted a man near Balboa Park's dog park Thursday evening.
The incident happened at approximately 6:42 p.m. Thursday near 6th Street and Laurel Street near Balboa Park, police said.
The victim, described to be a 42-year-old man, suffered a cut above his left ear and his left ring finger. The man's ring finger was also broken.
He was transported to the hospital. His injuries are non-life threatening.
According to police, the suspect was describing to be a male transitioning to female. She was described to be 5-feet 5-inches, black hair and was wearing an orange t-shirt under a yellow t-shirt and green pants.
Police are staging in the area and looking for at least one suspect, thought to be hiding under a nearby bridge.
Transients are being temporarily removed from the area near Cabrillo Bridge as part of the search.
