Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Car in Lakeside

A 28-year-old Lakeside man was struck and killed by a truck on Highway 8 Business Road early Thursday.

The man appeared to have been standing in the middle of Highway 8 Business Road near Lake Jennings Road when the truck hit him just before 4 a.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said.

The driver stayed at the scene and called 911.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead. He will not be identified until family can be notified, CHP said.

The driver told NBC 7 he was on his way home from the emergency room when he struck the person, who was standing in the street wearing dark clothing.

The front of the truck was crushed by the impact of the crash.

The driver was not hurt. He told NBC 7 he would rather have a few bumps and bruises if it meant the pedestrian would still be alive.

CHP said the driver did not appear to be speeding at the time of the crash. Their investigation is ongoing.
