Navy Man Dead, One Detained in Mountain View Shooting: SDPD

Curtis Adam was trying to help who he believed was a stranded driver

A suspect was in custody Saturday after a car shooting that killed a Navy sailor in Mountain View.

Curtis Adams, 21, was driving southbound on Interstate 15 around 2:20 a.m. when he saw what he thought was a stranded driver near the northbound Interstate 5 on-ramp and pulled over to help, according to the San Diego Police Department.

When Adams got out of his car and approached the other vehicle, he was shot, Lt. Anthony Dupree said.

He was with his girlfriend at the time who quickly called 911.

Caltrans spotted the suspect's car on Interstate 5 near 32nd Street. Officers then arrived at the scene to take the suspect into custody.

Adams was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center where he died.

There was no known relationship between Adams and the suspect, Dupree said.

Brandon Acuna, 21, was booked into county jail in connection with Adams' murder, SDPD announced Sunday.

The southbound I-15 connector to northbound I-5 was temporarily shut down for police to investigate.

If anyone has information on the incident, they are asked to call CHP Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
