Kyle Zimmer of La Jolla was the fifth pick overall in the MLB draft Monday night.
Zimmer, who played at the University of San Francisco, will play for the Kansas City Royals.
He went to USF as a third baseman, but was switched to pitcher with a fast ball that tops out at 98 mph.
Zimmer said he was speechless after the announcement.
βJust glad to be here with my friends and family,β he said.
βHeβs a great kid and would be a good addition to any organization,β said father Eric Zimmer
βI was shocked when I heard his name called,β said Cathy Hutchins. βMy whole body was tingling.β

Even Zimmerβs grandma said heβs got good stuff.
After finishing up his 2012 season at USF with one of the most dominant seasons of any pitcher in the school's history - a 5-3 record, 2.85 ERA, and 104 - to - 17 strikeout-to-walk ratio - looks like Grandma's got it right.
