House Fire Injures 1 in Imperial Beach: SDFD

A house fire displaced a family and left one person injured in Imperial Beach on Thursday, confirmed the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The fire was reported around 5 p.m. on the 1100 block of Florida Street in Imperial Beach, SDFD said.

The family managed to get out but one person was taken to the UCSD Burn Center with minor injuries, officials said.

The fire was contained to one structure, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Marquez said.

A neighbor said he smelled smoke and then went outside to see the flames.

“All I saw was this bright orange flame coming right out a window and a tree caught on fire,” Charles Sykes said.

He grabbed his two young children and dog and ran outside to safety.

“We got everything right here, my kids, everything,” said Sykes.

Officials blocked Fern Avenue and Florida Street, while they finished the invesigation.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, according to officials.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help the displaced family.
