Wrong-Way Driver Kills Motorcyclist

Suspected DUI driver Brian Webb, 33, collided head-on with a motorcyclist on Interstate 15 Saturday

A suspected DUI driver traveling the wrong way on Interstate 15 collided head-on with a motorcyclist resulting in a deadly crash, authorities confirmed.

According to CHP officials, 33-year-old Murrieta resident Brian Webb was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 on the freeway around 12:35 p.m. Saturday.

CHP said Webb entered northbound I-15 the wrong way from the northbound Del Lago Boulevard off-ramp at an unknown rate of speed. At the same time, a 60-year-old man was riding his 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound in the same lane, just south of Via Rancho Parkway.

Webb’s truck collided head-on with the motorcycle, according to officials. Officials said the 60-year-old rider sustained fatal injuries.

Investigators said they found open containers of alcohol in Webb’s truck following the deadly collision. He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Webb is currently in jail facing several charges including gross vehicular manslaughter and a DUI. He’s scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

NBC 7 San Diego has learned that Webb has a prior DUI conviction on his record. Riverside County court records show he was convicted on a DUI charge in 2007.

The Escondido resident killed was Robin Vaughan, a retired audiologist. He was a husband, father and grandfather, according to a former colleague.

One employee described him as one of the "best bosses" she's ever worked for.
