Man Killed When Car Rolls Over on SR-67 in Poway

One person died in a crash on State Route 67 near the Mina Del Oro Road exit Tuesday.

A white Toyota Tundra was found overturned in a shallow ravine west of Westview Road at around 7:15 p.m., the San Diego Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies determined the pickup truck was traveling southbound on the highway when the driver lost control on a curve in the road and drove into a ditch.

The driver attempted to correct the truck's course but the truck rolled over and off the road, ejecting the driver in the process, SDSO said.

A witness told NBC 7 she heard what she thought sounded like a crash and came running outside to see if she could help.

"I was right in my kitchen making dinner and I heard a crash that wasn't stopping," Elaine Rossi said. "It crashed at least three or four times and sounded like a super loud truck, but no other vehicles."

By the time an ambulance got to the scene it was too late, Rossi said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as 39-year-old William Robert Carnley of El Cajon.

The incident was determined to be an accident, according to the ME's office.
