Officer Opens Fire After Patrol Car Rammed

A Chula Vista police officer opened fire on a vehicle near Third Avenue and G Street

A Chula Vista police officer opened fire on a vehicle near Third Avenue and G Street early Thursday.

The officer made the traffic stop just after 11:30 p.m. in an alley off Third Avenue.

The suspect vehicle drove in reverse, ramming the patrol car according to officials.

The officer got out of his patrol car and tried to contact the driver. That's when police say the suspect vehicle pulled forward, made a U-turn and accelerated toward the officer who then opened fire.

The suspect's car hit the police patrol car a second time losing its bumper and grill in the impact before taking off.

The officer was not injured.

Officials tracked down the suspect’s car and detained two men and a juvenile. Investigators say one occupant may still be on the loose.

The incident is still under investigation.
