Double Rainbow Appears As Brunt of Storm Passes Through San Diego

A double rainbow illuminated the sky in Rancho Bernardo, as the brunt of the storm passed.

Light sprinkles across San Diego County Sunday afternoon turned into heavier rain overnight and cleared up in the early morning, illuminating a double rainbow in Rancho Bernardo, according to National Weather Service (NWS).

The brunt of the storm passed through the night, dissipating by the time most commuters went to work. A Facebook post from San Diego's NWS showed a double rainbow shining colors by their Rancho Bernardo office.

Most of the showers will decrease Monday, according to NWS forecasters. The low pressure trough that spread rain around the region has moved east, and scattered sprinkles should taper off as the day continues.

According to California Highway Patrol, there were 113 collisions reported throughout the night. On an average day, there are usually about 140 crashes even in optimal weather, so the rain appeared to have a minimal effect on traffic accidents.

During Sunday night, some steady rain fell, with occasional heavy bouts. There was some thunder and hail from the coast to the mountains, and snow above. However, the worst of this storm passed by sunrise. The Monday morning commute was wet, with rain soaked freeways glistening after a night of showers.

The chance for lingering sprinkles of rain will decrease as the day goes on to a 20 percent chance through Monday evening. There are also two weather advisories in effect. A Wind Advisory is in effect for our local mountains and deserts until 8 p.m. Monday, warning there may be 20 to 30 MPH winds with gusts to 50 MPH and isolated gusts up to 60 miles per hour.

At the coast, a High Surf Advisory is in effect for surf five or eight feet high. This advisory expires at 6 p.m. Monday.
