$20K Worth of Equipment Stolen From Chula Vista American Little League Team

“They are just ruining our game," said one player of the loss of equipment.

A Chula Vista Little League team had more than $20,000 worth of equipment stolen when a storage room was burglarized, the team told NBC7.

The Chula Vista American Little League President says sometime between Friday and Saturday burglars busted open a door on a storage room near East J Street.

“I just don't get it; I don't know why they would do that to kids,” said Joseph Kellogg, one of the team’s players. “We didn't do anything to them."

Thieves took a riding mower, pitching machines, leaf blowers, a portable lawn mower and a weed whacker, among other items – items the team needs to clean their field.

“They are just ruining our game; if we don't have that stuff then our fields can't get cleaned,” said Kellogg. “We can't play on a dirty field.”

President of the League, LeRoy Donaldson, said the news came as a shock and it was “even hard for the adults to take in.”

“Shock, trying to figure it all out right now, why they would want to do this,” Donaldson said of his reaction to the news. “I know it's Christmas season, people need money, I don't understand it.”

Chula Vista Police are investigating it as a commercial burglary. The Little League team said it plans to write a claim through the National Little League Association, but are also hoping for community support to replace the stolen items.

The team’s players told NBC7 they felt angry and hurt about the burglary.

“Please don’t take our stuff because we need it to play baseball,” said Kellogg in a plea.

Chula Vista Police are asking anyone with information to call them.
