San Diegans Pay Tribute to the King of Pop

Hundreds of Michael Jackson fans have written personal messages to the King of Pop at a tribute to him at the San Diego County Fair. Workers at the Exhibit Hall got the idea Thursday afternoon.

"The room just filled with whispers and people talking,” employee Jacob Villavicencio said. “’Did you hear about Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett’?"

By Friday morning, a short biography of Jackson's life was up, along with two sections of a wall where people could express their feelings for the dead pop star.

"I grew up with his music," Ed Baker said.

"I think I was about five when my parents gave me and my older brother his 'Bad' tape," Nicole Ahmu said. "I kind of thought it was a hoax at first"

"I'm still in shock. I really am. I was expecting him to be like, ‘oh I'm alive -- it was a ploy’," Terry Cook said.

A couple of people said they were looking forward to his upcoming tour and though they won't get a chance to see any of his new dance moves, many are still trying to master the classic.

"I still to this day try to do the moonwalk. I'm not that good at it,” Villavicencio said. “I have a cousin who's really good at it and he's tried teaching me."

Workers inside the exhibit hall say they're monitoring the messages and have taken some down that make references to Jackson being a child molester or burning in the afterlife. They say they're trying to preserve the family friendly atmosphere.
