Entering Saturday's game in Cincinnati, the Padres had won five straight games against left-handed starters.
In fact, they'd scored more runs against lefties than any other team in the National League.
So when Reds lefty Tony Cingrani took the mound, he already had two strikes against him. The other guy who was pitching turned out to be the 3rd.
Tyson Ross was nothing short of awesome. Ross threw seven inning, allowing just one run while striking out six to get his third win of the year.
It's the latest in a string of sensational starts for the 26-year-old. In his last four outings combined, Ross has thrown 27 innings, allowing 12 hits and four earned runs, striking out 28.
Cingrani was certainly not bad. He gave up two runs in five innings, but neither one was earned.
Cincinnati's defense was awful. I mean, terrible. The Padres scored their first run in the first inning when Will Venable lofted a broken-bat single to left. Outfielder Xavier Paul let the ball trickle through his legs and Chris Denorfia scored from first.

Then 3rd baseman Jack Hannahan had arguably the worst game of his life. He'd only made 44 errors in 543 career games, but committed three errors in seven innings on Saturday night. The first came on the batter after Paul's outfield gaffe, when he fielded Chase Headley's ground ball and threw wide to first base, allowing Venable to score.
On Sunday the Padres can win the series when they send Ian Kennedy to the mound against Mike Leake.
