Lego Land, SeaWorld to hold events on Saturday

Options abound for New Year's Eve revelry in San Diego today, and transit officials will make it easier to get home after midnight.

For children, Legoland California will host a party beginning at 2 p.m. with music and a Times Square-style countdown to the drop of a 6-foot-long Lego brick.

Celebrations for youths are also scheduled for the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Boomers! in Vista.

SeaWorld San Diego will host a five-minute fireworks display following its final show of the day, expected about 7:50 p.m.

Downtown San Diego should be hopping.

The second annual Firefighter's Ball, benefitting the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation, will be held at the Convention Center this evening, and features a concert by Davy Jones of The Monkees.
Stunt riders Levi LaVallee and Robbie Maddison will attempt a tandem, 300-foot jump -- in a snowmobile and motorcycle, respectively -- across Embarcadero Marina, an 8 p.m. event to be televised on ESPN and espn3.com.

A gala will be held at 8 p.m. aboard the USS Midway Museum to raise funds for the preservation of the aircraft carrier, and the House of Blues will host a block party, starting at 9 p.m..

The Metropolitan Transit System plans to run extra trolleys after midnight. Additional southbound Blue Line trains will depart the Old Town Transit Center at 12:15 a.m. and 12:45 a.m; an extra eastbound Green Line train will leave Old Town at 12:30 a.m.; and the last eastbound Orange Line train will head out at 12:45 p.m. from the 12th and Imperial station.

The North County Transit District will offer free service aboard all buses and trains after 6 p.m. The Sprinter train between Oceanside and Escondido will run after midnight, with the last trip departing at 2:03 a.m.An additional NCTD Coaster train will depart Oceanside at 8:30 p.m. and
return from downtown San Diego at 12:45 a.m.
