El Cajon Trailer Home Destroyed in Fire

A trailer in El Cajon was completely destroyed by a fire Monday morning.

Heartland Fire and Rescue crews responded to the fire in the 400 block of Van Houten Avenue at about 9:45 a.m. Monday.

As crews were on their way, a 17-year-old neighbor attempted to save the home himself. He sustained a non-life threatening arm injury in the process, according to a statement from Heartland Fire and Rescue.

Crews arrived to find flames and smoke spreading throughout the entire trailer home. No one was inside the home at the time.

After about 10 minutes of fighting the fire, they  knocked it down. However, the home was considered a total loss, with damage estimated at about $5,000.

The teen who tried to save the house was transported to the hospital, but no one else was injured.

Heartland Fire and Rescue was assisted by CalFire and the Santee Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
