San Diego Man Rescued from Submerged Car

The man's minivan was caught in a flash flood near the Marine Corps Recruit Depot

San Diego police jumped in and rescued a man after his vehicle was caught in a flash flood near the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Thursday.

A minivan driver was traveling along Pacific Highway and Witherby Street, near the entrance of MCRD around 9:45 p.m. when his vehicle became stuck in the rising water, police said.

The officers jumped into the water and pulled him to safety.

Soon after the man could be seen visibly shaken up and shivering under a yellow rain coat provided to him by the same officer who pulled him to safety.

Video captured at the scene shows the minivan submerged almost up to its roof (pictured above.)

The victim sat in the patrol car until paramedics arrived. San Diego lifeguards responded and donned swift-water rescue gears to search the vehicles for any other possible victims.

They helped rescue a taxi driver who also got stuck in the flooding.

A powerful storm cell moved through the area causing the flooding and a closure of northbound Pacific Highway.

There is no word if either driver was injured.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for San Diego mountains and deserts beginning at noon through Friday evening.
