Young singer/songwriter Matt Hires returns to San Diego after two years of nearly non-stop touring.

Florida singer/songwriter Matt Hires is something special. I'm not sure what it is about the young musician that makes him stand out above the throngs within the cute boy-with-guitar genre. Maybe it's the slight quiver in his voice when he sings. Perhaps it's the mature delivery of innocent and slightly naive lyrics. I don't know what it is, but I try to make it a point to see him whenever he comes to town, and tonight will be no exception as he takes over Anthology for an early show. I've seen him solo and with a full band. I've seen him on a harbor cruise, in a record store, and at the Casbah. I missed his last show at Anthology as an opener, but I think I just knew it was inevitable that sooner or later he would be headlining on his own. That time has finally come.
