Prison Payback For Grandma Beaters?

On the surface, Sandy Vinge appears to be just fine.  But behind her contagious smile and positive attitude, she is hiding deep emotional scars.

"I remember everything, it was just terrible," said Vinge, who is in her mid-70's.

On December 8, 2008, Vinge was abducted from her La Mesa home by two men who posed as vacuum salesmen. She was robbed, beaten and stuffed in the back of her car.

After being bound with duct tape, the sadistic duo drove Vinge around for 26 hours.

"The choking part was real bad," Vinge said.  "I thought I was going to die."

Vinge nearly did die, but she was saved by a San Diego County Sheriff's Deputy who pulled over her car for a traffic violation.

Jeffrey Nelson and Luis Osborne were convicted and sent to prison this year. But Vinge says the punishment hasn't ended there.

She's heard from a reliable source that Nelson and Osborne are getting a taste of their own medicine from other inmates.

"They have been beaten up three times, and put in the infirmary, the inmates don't like them," Vinge said from her La Mesa home on Friday.

NBC San Diego couldn't get any information about Jeffrey Nelson, but officials at Donovan State Prison did confirm that Osborne has been attacked at least once.

According to the warden, the attack happened on April 20 and Osborne did need medical attention. He is now in the Administration Segregation Unit on "single cell" status, meaning he doesn't have a cellmate.

Vinge doesn't want to encourage any violence against Nelson and Osborne, but she does want to thank the inmates who have taken matters into their own hands.

"That's awful to say. But that's the way I feel, I can't help it," Vinge said.

Prison officials said the inmate who attacked Osborne could face prosecution.
