Things are heating up just when it's supposed to be cooling down. Fall in San Diego is the best time of year. How do we tell when the seasons are changing? (Seriously, tell me!)
The calendar in my life revolves around live music and I love seeing both local and touring bands. On any given night, I am at some show around town, big or small. So here is a list of where you might find me. Feel free to stalk away, but more importantly, just go see a show!
If you do see me, come up and introduce yourself. I love meeting new people and finding out what they do. Peruse away -- these are my highlights for November. Happy Thanksgiving!
Nov. 1: Delta Spirit at the Belly Up, welcome the local boys home and pick up their new album "Into the Wide."
Nov. 2: All Them Witches at Soda Bar -- check out this Nashville band's brand of psychedelta blues.
Nov. 3: Iceage at Casbah. A great Danish post-punk band that just released their third studio album, "Plowing Into the Field of Love," on Matador Records.
Nov. 4: Ballet School at Casbah. A Berlin-based band that mixes old sounds and new, influenced by the Cure and the Cocteau Twins.
Nov. 5: The Features at Casbah. They're a Nashville-based band that just released a new single, "Good Old Days" - Google it!
Nov. 6: Rhye at the North Park Theatre: alternative R&B from this LA-based duo.
Nov. 7: Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts at Sycuan Live & Up Close. A new band for the former Stone Temple Pilots frontman.
Nov. 8: We Were Promised Jetpacks at the Irenic; great alt-pop from Edinburgh, Scotland.
Nov. 9: Shakey Graves at the Irenic. One man band Alejandro Rose-Garcia, better known as Shakey Graves just released "...And the War Came."
Nov. 10: Nothingful, Family Tree Analog, the Thief's Lineage, Otis, Bantam Feather, Obligerant at Casbah. It's a birthday party for Sasha, from Off the Record!
Nov. 11: The Wytches at Soda Bar; a three piece surf-psych band from the UK.
Nov. 12: Death From Above 1979 at House Of Blues! Their new album "The Physical World" is superb, and sounds like the band never left! Great dance punk!
Nov. 13: Maryjane's Underground with Radios Silent and Glass Spells for free, sponsored by 619 Vodka -- RSVP here.
Nov. 14: The Presets at the North Park Theatre. IHeartComix presents the Check Yo Ponytail Tour. Indie dance party!
Nov. 15: Blonde Redhead at House Of Blues -- unique alt-rock from this band that just released "Barragan," their ninth studio album.
Nov. 16: Adrian Belew at Casbah -- legendary guitarist and small venue for the man that calls Frank Zappa his biggest influence.
Nov. 17: The Psychedelic Furs and the Lemonheads at Belly Up Tavern: Two legendary bands, one from the '80s and one from the '90s.
Nov. 18: Smallpools at House Of Blues. A newish indie pop band that just released their self-titled EP in July.
Nov. 19: Cold War Kids at Belly Up Tavern. The band just played a secret show in San Diego for Top Shop clothing -- now everyone can go see them! Get the new album, "Hold My Home."
Nov. 20: Ms. Lauryn Hill at the North Park Theatre: The always unpredictable but magical Ms. Lauryn Hill of the Fugees.
Nov. 21: SoundDiego LIVE with Mariachi El Bronx at U-31 -- you better RSVP today right here!
Nov. 22: Primus at California Center For The Arts, Escondido; legend of alternative music, the band just released "Primus and the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensembl" -- a reinterpretation of the music from the Willy Wonka classic movie.
Nov. 23: Capital Cities at House Of Blues -- are you safe and sound?
Nov. 24: Island Boy, the Black and the White, Bakkuda at Casbah -- a show I booked with two local bands and one from LA.
Nov. 25: Alvvays at Soda Bar, Canadian indie pop band that writes w's with two v's.
Nov. 26: Peter Hook of Joy Division and New Order at House Of Blues. Peter Hook & the Light perform New Order's "Low-Life" and "Brotherhood," plus an opening set of Joy Division.
Nov. 27: Happy Thanksgiving!
Nov. 28: Alice Cooper at Harrah's Resort Southern California -- the original shock rocker is in the house!
Nov. 29: Chrissie Hynde at the Balboa Theatre -- frontwoman for the Pretenders!
Nov. 30: OFF!, Nasa Space, Gay Kiss at the Epicentre; local punk rock super group!
That's it, my friend -- oh, what a month it is! It's hard to imagine Christmas is right around the corner. So until next month, I'll see you at a show!
