Friars' Feng Shi

Petco Park is perfect.  How can I make such a subjective comment?  Well, according to a little-known baseball rule, it is.

Major League Baseball Rule 1.04 "The Playing Field" specifically outlines how ballparks are to be laid out.  While some of the aspects of this rule -- like the bases being 90 feet apart -- are nonnegotiable, others are ignored.

I'm talking specifically about the part of Rule 1.04 that says "It is desirable that the line from home base through the pitcher's plate to second base shall run east-northeast."

Next time you sit at Petco and watch the Friars take the field, break out a compass. OK, unless you shop at REI and have one on your key chain, you probably don't own a compass, but if you did, you would notice the directional perfection of Petco Park.

Check out Petco's alignment in comparison to other ballparks around the nation.
