Samuel L. Jackson is back with a new bedtime story and this time it has a political message.
The actor has re-teamed with author Adam Mansbach on "Wake the F--- Up," a four-minute, profanity-laced, pro-Obama tale urging voters to wake up and get out and vote. The pair previously joined forces on "Go the F--- to Sleep," a children's book parody that became an Internet sensation in audible form and shot to the top of the Amazon best seller list when it was published in June of 2011.
The new collaboration, paid for by the Jewish Council for Education and Research, stumps hard for Obama. In the video (which includes multiple uses of the F-word) Jackson addresses voters who have lost the zeal that had them flocking to the polls in 2008. Lethargic teens, bored parents and preoccupied senior citizens are visited by the "Avengers" actor and told to "Wake the f--- up" before it's too late. Here's an excerpted verse:
"Sorry my friends, but there's no time to snore/ An out-of-touch millionaire just declared war./ On school, the environment, unions, fair pay./ We're all on our own if Romney has his way./ And he's against safety nets, if you fall, tough luck./ So I strongly suggest that you wake the f--- up."
"My hopes are that the video helps … remind people of Obama's accomplishments and the stakes of this election, and galvanize people to get out and get active," Mansbach told Yahoo! "Not just to vote, but to volunteer and organize." Mansbach went on to say that he didn't write the script for Jackson, but made revisions when the actor signed on.
To promote the collaboration Jackson tweeted a link to the video and "Election season is winding up, so listen to Shaft and wake the f--- up!"to his 1.5 million followers on Thursday.
