Padres ace reliever Trevor Hoffman may be setting the stage for a departure from the San Diego stage, according to a published report.
Hoffman, who is Major League baseball's saves leader with 554, filed for free agency earlier this week, the North County Times reported. Both the club and Hoffman have shown interest in the pitcher closing out his career with the Friars.
The reliever has has 30 saves this year, the 13th time he has reached that mark.
