San Diego police officers wasted no time citing scooter riders not wearing helmets in Mission Beach Tuesday.
Since mid-February, when rideshare scooters were first introduced to San Diego, police officers have been issuing tickets when someone rides the motorized scooters illegally.
That was no exception Tuesday.
Tickets are issued if the rider is not wearing a properly fitted and fastened bicycle helmet, if the scooter is operated on a sidewalk or if the scooter has a passenger other than the operator, according to the California Vehicle Code.
Over the Memorial Day weekend, the SDPD Beach Team issued 275 citations, according to District 2 Councilmember Lorie Zapf's office.
