Spring Valley Man Accused of Stabbing Girlfriend, Mother

The suspect had threatened to hurt himself deputies said

A Spring Valley man was arrested Tuesday, accused of brutally stabbing his mother and girlfriend.

San Diego County sheriff's deputies responded to the Canyon Park Apartments on Canyon Road around 12:30 a.m. and discovered three people bleeding from stab wounds.

One victim, a 35-year-old woman, was stabbed twice in the lungs. Deputies said the victim's boyfriend, Gabriel Martinez, attacked the victim with a knife and stabbed his 50-year-old mother in the head and in the leg.

Martinez, 27, who had cuts on his wrists, had threatened to hurt himself deputies said.

He was taken into custody and treated for his injuries at Grossmont hospital.

Martinez's girlfriend is in the ICU at Scripps Mercy Hospital and is expected to survive deputies said.

All three people lived in the same apartment.
