The national tour for the hit Broadway musical "Hamilton" is coming to San Diego.

The popular hip-hop musical, with book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, tells the story of America's Founding Father and first U.S. Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton. The stage biography explores how an orphan immigrant in the Caribbean became America's "$10 Founding Father without a father."

But San Diegans looking to snag a ticket to Broadway's most popular show will have to wait for it: the tour will stop in the city during the 2017-2018 season, producer Jeffrey Seller and Broadway San Diego announced Wednesday.

Single and group tickets for the show, along with exact dates the show will be in town, will be announced at a later date. The only way to guarantee seats for the musical before seats go on sale to the general public is to become a season ticket holder for the 2016-2017 season and renew your subscription. In New York, the show consistently plays to sold-out crowds.

No cast has been announced for the tour. On Broadway, a multicultural cast plays some of America's most famous figures: Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, James Madison, Aaron Burr and King George III.

The critical and audience sensation has been the talk of the theater world since it opened off-Broadway in 2015. The show is directed by Thomas Kail with choreography by Andy Blenkenbuehler and musical direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. "Hamilton" is based on Ron Chernow's biography of the life of the Founding Father.

If you just can't wait for it, there's good news: the "Hamilton" cast recording is available everywhere nationwide.
