An unregistered sex offender was caught at a large trick-or-treat event in Ramona, according to sheriff’s officials.
Officials said an off-duty sergeant noticed a man acting strangely at the Ramona Chamber of Commerce Main Street Trick-or-Treat. The man was in costume with white face paint and red stripes, resembling blood.
According to the sheriff’s department, the man was passing out candy and annoying children. A witness saw the man sneak candy into a child’s bag, even after the parents had told him “no.”
The man was identified as 29-year-old Danny Shaw of Yucca Valley, an unregistered sex offender from Oregon.
According to officials, Shaw admitted he moved to California in February, but didn’t register as a sex offender as he was required to do.
Shaw was arrested and booked for felony sex offender registration violation and being a convicted sex offender annoying or molesting a minor.
An estimated 750 to 1,000 kids were at the trick-or-treat event.
