Pedestrian Hit by Car, Killed Crossing I-5

A pedestrian was killed apparently crossing lanes of northbound Interstate 5 in Egger Highlands Thursday night.

The California Highway Patrol said that it had been receiving reports about a pedestrian running across the freeway, and at 5:26 p.m. it received a call that a car had hit a pedestrian in freeway lanes.

The pedestrian, believed to be homeless, was crossing from the right shoulder of northbound I-5 toward the median south of Coronado Avenue when they were hit and thrown from the force fo the collision.

Emergency responders pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene, according to CHP. The driver stayed at the scene and was not injured in the crash.

One lane was blocked as officers tended to the scene.
