Man in Stolen Car Dies in Solo Crash in Lakeside

A 27-year-old man was killed in a crash early Sunday morning while riding in a stolen car in Lakeside, the California Highway Patrol said.

Lance Xavier Christian was ejected from a 2003 white Chevrolet Tahoe after the car spun out and hit a tree at around 4 a.m., CHP Officer Travis Garrow said.

The cause of the collision on Moreno Avenue near San Vicente Avenue is still unknown at this time.

The impact of the crash caused the car to overturn onto the passenger side, Garrow said.

Arriving first responders found Christian partially ejected and pinned under the car, Garrow said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators do not believe the man was wearing a seat belt when the car crashed.

It was unclear if Christian was the only person in the car at the time of the crash. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department K9 unit was called in to assist with the search but Lt. Karla Menzies did not have any further information.

The Chevrolet was reported stolen in September 2018.

At this time, neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to a factor in the crash, Garrow said.

Anyone with any information about the crash was urged to contact the CHP at (619) 401-2000 or (858) 637-3800.
