SDPD Investigates Its First Homicide Case This Year

The victim's roommate has been questioned as a "person of interest"

One man was found stabbed to death and another injured Monday in the San Diego Police Department's first homicide investigation of the new year.

Homicide investigators inspected the fifth floor of the Market Street Village apartment complex after police discovered a body lying in a hallway, confirmed police. The investigation is underway on the corner of 14th and G Street in downtown San Diego.

The victim's roommate was treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries and was later taken to the police station for questioning. He is considered a "person of interest" at this time.

Police have identified the victim, but his name will not be released until relatives are notified.

A few hours before this incident, police were responding to a brawl in the outdoor lounge of the same complex. It was not yet clear if the incidents were connected.

Police said they are not looking for other suspects, and there is currently no threat to the community.
