Gulls Lose, Start Season 0-5

San Diego has another late collapse in loss to Ontario

At some point during the 2019-20 American Hockey League season the Gulls are going to win games. I'm sure of it.

But to do that they're going to have to fix a lot of stuff.

The Gulls lost to the Ontario Reign 6-2 on Friday night at Pechanga Arena, their 5th straight loss to start the season. What makes it worse is, after a 2-1 season opening setback in Bakersfield, the Gulls have been outscored 21-7 in their last four outings.

They fell behind 2-0 before Simon Benoit scored his first goal of the year in the 2nd period to make it 2-1. In the 3rd period they gave up another goal then Chris Wideman found the back of the net on a power play and it looked like San Diego had finally found some momentum.

But then goalie Kevin Boyle lost sight of the puck in the crease and Matt Luff poked it home to put the Reign up 4-2. Ontario scored two more in the final three minutes to complete the blowout.

The Gulls get another shot at win number one on Saturday night when they finish their home-and-home series in Ontario.
