The 2010 governor's race is about to get underway here in San Diego.
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom will be visiting Wednesday night as part of his expected campaign for Governor. He has, of course, been in the national spotlight because of his support of gay marriage.
"And it looks increasingly likely that we'll be jumping in the race, though again that is not official," Newsom told reporters as he toured Southern California this week. He'll also visit Palm Springs and Santa Barbara this week.
"Newsom is young and brash, really an unkown and he needs to make the most of being bold," said political consultant Larry Remer.
Newsom will be at Monroe Clark Middle School on Thorn Street in San Diego at 7 p.m.
Other possible democratic candidates include Senator Dianne Feinstein, Attorney General and former governor Jerry Brown and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
On the Republican side: former congressman Tom Campbell, Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner and former EBay CEO Meg Whitman.
