PD: No Gas Leak on SDSU Frat Row

Residents were evacuated for a little over an hour while authorities searched for a possible gas leak

A report of a gas leak at a fraternity house near San Diego State University Tuesday evening prompted temporary evacuations of several surrounding frat houses, according to officials.

The odor of natural gas stemming from the 5500-block of Hardy Avenue in San Diego’s College Area was reported to authorities around 4:35 p.m.

Officials from San Diego Fire-Rescue and San Diego Gas & Electric responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officials shut down gas to several of the houses on frat row and began searching for the source of the possible leak.

The buildings were evacuated for a short time as a precaution, officials said.

By 5:30 p.m., SDG&E crews were still on scene investigating whether or not there was a gas leak, while firefighters cleared the area.

By 6 p.m., police said no gas leak had been detected, and gave the all-clear for residents to return to their homes.
